Significance:
Dodda basappa temple is an ancient temple in the belavaniki village. The temple may be related to 11th – 12th century. Dodda basappa temple is a renowned temple among the farmer community in the region. Basappa means basavanna or nandi, even though it’s called as dodda basappa gudi It’s a shiva temple with a shiva linga in the garbha graham. Only a basavanna statue is there infront of the shivalinga in the mantapa of the temple with some small artistic sculpture. the temple gopura is in the hexagonal shape which is unique compare to other ancient temples in the region. The mantapa stands on many plane pillars. Some inscriptions related to establishment and renovation of this temple is available in the temple premise.
